Unfortunately we are not able to get a room block at our normal location, the Berkeley Lab Guest House. And in discussions around trying to get another room block, we are unfortunately running into a difficult situation related to the high uncertainty that many people are currently facing around work travel. As such, at the moment we find ourselves in a unique situation where we have less than 24 hours to try and discover if there is enough certainty among our normal in-person attendees and desire to stay in a room block. If you would like to understand the background to the situation we are in, please read on in this paragraph, otherwise, you can skip to the question below and respond to that. Background: In the current circumstances, we can not book a room block at a hotel unless we have clarity about if we can get enough people to book a room in such a block, however we understand that it is hard for people to make a decision about traveling in-person without information about things like hotels and room blocks. So our unique position is that if we can get between 8-10 people to let me know by 2:30 PM Pacific Time tomorrow (June 3) that they would like to book a room in the Hotel Shattuck for a part or the full duration of the June J3/WG5 meeting, then we can book the hotel room block and provide the booking information. If we do not meet that bar, unfortunately we will not be able to provide a room block due to concerns about potential penalties to LBNL. I have attached the local arrangements below, which has a list of hotels for people to consult in the event that we are not able to provide a room block. However, please respond to the question below so that we can understand if enough people are interested in the room block to make it possible.

If yes, please email me before 2:30 pm Pacific Time on June 3 to inform me of your desire. If we don't get enough people to confirm, we unfortunately will not be able to provide a hotel room block. Note: You do not have to be a government employee to get this rate. The rate will be a very good deal for the area and the time of year. The hotel is very near a free LBL shuttle that will take you to the lab site and the commute will be about 15 minutes. Please see the local arrangements document attached to this email for more information about the meeting in general.
