Rich was a member of X3J3 when I joined sometime in late 77 or early 78 I
think. Plans for Fortran 90 were being made and I remember Rich as someone
who had a clear consistent idea of what he thought Fortran should become.
He was articulate and explained his thoughts well. Rich was someone who
could disagree with you without being disagreeable. He was a nice guy.
I'm glad I knew him.
