I was very sorry to read about Dan and echo all the complementary words written about him.  I seem to remember that in 2001 there was some problem about finding a new chair for J3 but Dan stepped in and did a splendid job for twenty years.  His very sudden resignation in 2020 was a shock, and presumably health-related.  My last contact with him was to ensure he was not affected by the wildfires in the Boulder area in January 2022.
