Well said, Damian. He had a lot of ideas for Generics. And then he suddenly stopped joining our Generics Subgroup meetings. Unfortunately, we now know why. I am sad and very surprised to learn of his passing.

As others have said, this is very sad news.  Aleks reached out to me early in his thought process about rejoining the committee and came to visit me at Berkeley Lab to ask about the status of the work on generics at the time.  He was a fountain of ideas, delved deeply into the proposals, and offered detailed and insightful analysis in numerous emails and videoconferences.  His contribution will be missed.

He had a lot of ideas for the Fortran generics and was involved last summer a lot. I think I have over 100 emails from him.
