I was thinking that we could just leave the liaison role with quantum in an indeterminate state. Ba-dum-chuk!

Sorry – late on a Friday. Could not resist.

I have finite work responsibilities at Nvidia related to quantum computing. I don’t know what sort of interaction is expected but I suppose I can handle it.

Anyone interested in being WG5's liaison with this new JTC?

Steve

Dear SC 22 Convenors,

I would like to bring the attached call for liaisons to your attention. I would appreciate it if you would mention it within your groups.

In the past, work on quantum computing has taken place within JTC 1, where it was easier for me to monitor what was happening in case programming languages needed to know about it. However, that work is now being moved to a new IEC/ISO JTC 3 Quantum Technologies (note IEC is taking the lead there, so their initials come first). Now it will be more difficult for programming languages to get information about what is happening with quantum computing unless we establish an explicit liaison with them.

Although I have called on national bodies to nominate liaisons, it is likely that the required expertise will be inside a working group, so I would appreciate it if you would ask anyone who might be interested to contact their national bodies about becoming the liaison.

David

P.S. WG 4 is between convenors at the moment, so I have copied Jeff Shimoda who is being nominated as the next WG 4 convenor.
