I made the mistake of reading the next paragraph, which uses much of
the same terminology. It says that when format control reverts to the
left parenthesis, it includes the repeat count, and positions the file
as if by a slash format descriptor.
If "begin" and"end", and the syntax term, which includes the
parentheses and the asterisk, were used instead of parentheses, there
would be no possibility for confusion.
