As Exhibit A in the argument that discrimination doesn’t have to be direct,
explicit, or even intentional to nonetheless have disturbing effects, let’s
note that it creates a hostile environment for anyone interested in
addressing such imbalances when someone who is in the demographic group
that occupies the overwhelming proportion of the group’s membership
publicly labels even the smallest of efforts to address the issue “absurdly
irrelevant.”
