Van,

Wow.  How this survey can seem absurd or irrelevant to a member of a body
that is nearly 100% homogeneous in terms of gender is beyond me. Your
response is stunning in its tone-deafness, especially in light of the
context of what’s happening around us right now to put other societal
inequities on full display.  Let me register that I am profoundly pleased
and encouraged that this survey is taking place.  I hope to someday live in
a world wherein no well-meaning person walks into a room that is very
nearly completely homogeneous in terms of any number of demographic
dimensions along which there  have been centuries of oppression and
announces that any attempt to even gather data related to such an obvious
imbalance is irrelevant or absurd.
