At SC last year - 2019 -  (that people actually went to) one of the plenary speakers was the guy from MIT who invented Julia.   I swear I had heard exactly the same talk once before, except with the word Julia exchanged for Chapel.  (The original talk was by Brad Chamberlain who invented Chapel.)

There was a Workshop talk this year that involved Julia. For a parallel job, they compared the performance against Fortran.  The Fortran version preformed better by a significant amount.
