Sure, go ahead and dismiss me as a religious philosopher.

 

But you already noticed the problems with polymorphism. Intending to ALLOCATE it means you’re going to be changing the type, but the type was already established at the invocation time.

 

Since there are existing other means to do this kind of thing, there is no loss of functionality with C760 as is.  I think changing C760 in the way suggested would be highly irregular and surprising.
