FWIW Colorado licenses have been compliant since 2011. No need to get a special flight worthy license

My wife renewed last year and wasn't going to get the RealID version, as she was concerned (rightfully so) about so much information being in yet another government database, but the clerk at the DMV told her (incorrectly) that she could not renew Global Entry without it, so she gave in. (Global Entry cards are valid ID for flying and one isn't even asked for a drivers license when renewing.)

There was a big kerfluffle about people having to pay again to get a RealID license so that they could fly. I never heard what the resolution of this was.

My driver license does not expire until 2020, and I have no plans to get a new one before then. OTOH, my job requires having a passport and it has to be in hand on possibly short notice, so I always take it on any trip. Hence RealID is a non-issue for me.
