[J3] (j3.2006) J3 mailing lists moving

Steve,

I made a copy of the J3 email archives around the end of December for searching purposes (to understand some of the discussions about things in the past).

I have virtually everything that could be saved from the mailman.j3-fortran.org, as the monthly .txt files (or .html files from the very old archives) through December 2017.

I also have UNIX mbox format files with the email subject lines cleaned up to make the threads easier to follow.

Let me know if you would like me to send you these zipped up.

Gary

Subject: (j3.2006) J3 mailing lists moving

The final piece of moving the J3 web site off of the NCAR server is the mailing list(s), such as this one. I am going to change the DNS entries to point to the new J3 server, but this will take a few days to propagate. The addresses for the mailing lists, such as j3 at mailman.j3-fortran.org, remain the same. (At the moment, omitting the "mailman." part of the address will not work, but I will see if I can add a redirection.)

I believe I have copied over all of the subscriptions and settings for j3, j3-members and j3-ustag. The other lists currently served by NCAR seem to have been unused for a long time - no problem starting them up again if need be. I do not yet have the archives of the mailing lists, but Dan is going to get those to me and I will make them available through the web site in the future.

How will you know if you are getting the new server? The emails from the current server have [J3-2006] in the subject, the new server will just say [J3]. Also, the mailing list passwords for each user will be different - you will be able to use the standard Mailman interface to get that password (links will be provided on the J3 web site under Resources > Mailing Lists when the switchover has completed, and you'll get the usual monthly reminder of the password.)

I'm a bit uncertain of how well this will work - it isn't something I've been able to test properly. If it becomes a problem I will reset back to NCAR while I investigate. Please let me know of any questions or problems.

Steve
