If we had done parameterized modules first, there wouldn't have been any
need for parameterized derived types, at least not with kind type
parameters.

I proposed a DIMENSION(<bounds-lists>) :: prefix for the
<allocate-object>s in an ALLOCATE statement.  That would go some
distance toward replacing length type parameters with allocatable
components.
