All,

I look forward to hosting the 2018 WG5 meeting in Oakland, California. Please access the following link to respond to a poll regarding preferred dates:

http://doodle.com/poll/nyywwfaxmqphhniz <http://doodle.com/poll/nyywwfaxmqphhniz>

The poll options include each full week in June 2018. Feel free to let me know if you would like to have additional options.

If we have the meeting at the Impact Hub Oakland <http://oakland.impacthub.net/> ? the worldwide headquarters of Sourcery Institute :) ? then I can reserve either of our two largest meeting rooms <http://oakland.impacthub.net/booking/> for plenary sessions. One holds 26 people. The other holds 36. I?ll book the one that holds 26 unless any of you suggest otherwise. If someone could give me an estimate of the likely sizes we?ll need for breakout rooms, that would be helpful.

I am investigating hotel options and am using the government per diem rate of $161/night as an intended cap, which will be challenging here. One option that I believe will be under the per diem rate is the Clarion Hotel <https://www.choicehotels.com/california/oakland/clarion-hotels/cab03?source=gyxt> in downtown Oakland, which Google Maps estimates to be a 15-minute, 0.8-mile walk from the Impact Hub Oakland <https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Clarion+Hotel+Downtown+Oakland+City+Center,+371+13th+St,+Oakland,+CA+94612/Impact+Hub+Oakland,+Broadway,+Oakland,+CA/@37.8076703,-122.2728236,16z/am=t/data=!3m1!4b1!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x808f80b413425549:0xb07d41caf46aa28!2m2!1d-122.270033!2d37.802756!1m5!1m1!1s0x808f80b1601fc9c5:0x99cdbf4424a8a937!2m2!1d-122.2663986!2d37.812643!3e2>. If you take a slight detour, it can be a very pleasant walk along picturesque Lake Merritt. It?s also possible to take the subway one stop (the map shows the 12th St. and 19th St. BART subway stops on Broadway). My assistant is investigating other hotel options as well.

There are dozens of great lunch and dinner spots across the full spectrum of prices within blocks of the Impact Hub Oakland, including a microbrewery that shares a wall with the Hub and restaurant just across the courtyard from the Hub.

For anyone thinking of spending extra days here before or after the meeting, I will provide a list of local cultural attractions and excursions further afield. From downtown Oakland, San Francisco is only 20 minutes away via subway and the wine country in Sonoma and Napa valleys is only a 1-hour drive away. For any music lovers, I highly recommend taking in a show at the SF Jazz Center <https://www.sfjazz.org/sfjazz-center>, which is a beautiful venue that is the first free-standing concert hall of its size and stature for jazz in the U.S.

All suggestions regarding the above are welcome.

Best Regards,
