(j3.2006) Ada committee doesn't do business with INCITS (or IEEE)

Would leaving INCITS result in J3/PL22.3 having no input into how ANSI votes on ISO ballots?

What would be the functional US standards body? PL22.3 (which I assume would continue to exist) or this RG? Who decides? Would WG5 have to be reorganized to exclude PL22.3 participation?

Do we want to be in the class of currently active and relevant languages with ?real? standards participation (along with C, C++)? Without bringing C and C++ along the same path, I don?t see how we avoid the image of having become just as dead and irrelevant as Ada.

I think that if INCITS does something bad enough that Fortran, C, and C++ ALL decide to leave, then it is reasonable to consider our options. So far, they have not crossed that line.

Cheers,
Bill

Language proposals originating in other Rapporteur Groups of WG 9 will be referred to the ARG for disposition in the same manner as suggestions originating outside of WG 9.

Guidance, including interpretation and amplification of Annex H will be developed for users, implementers, evaluators and certifiers. The guidance produced will be in a form suitable for reference in procurement....
