None of the processors I have will compile it.  They complain in F1 that
the type of R1 is not T2, and that R1 is not polymorphic in the SELECT
TYPE statement.

That at least one of those compilers is fine if you don't use a RESULT 
clause could be a clue that it is a common compiler bug.  (It is easy to 
imagine how this can have come about.)
