(j3.2006) (SC22WG5.5507) Reunion

Hi Damian,

For WG5 meetings, typically someone (or some organization) offers to host, and WG5 decides whether to accept. The recent pattern has been even numbered years in North America. 2018 is still pretty far in the future, so there is no real urgency.

The idea of SF/Oakland/Berkeley came up in the context of a reunion meeting. For the newbies, the reunion is for past members of the committee to get together with each other and the current members, and is nice to combine with a celebration of the publication of a new standard. 2018 should (hopefully) be a safe date for F2015 publication being done. Besides the attraction of NERSC, a lot of the J3/WG5 alumni live in or near California, so we could expect a good turnout. (And, the bay area has good airline connections and hotel options - practical considerations for an international meeting.)

I would expect that Toon, Reinhold, Daniel, Makki, Ian, and Jane will all be at the meeting in August. They all have excellent track records hosting recent meetings outside Las Vegas , and would be good sources of information on the work involved.

Cheers,
Bill

I assume hosting involves options and rates for accommodations, meeting venues, and social events. I am glad to do this if it is decided that the San Francisco Bay Area is the choice. I can also post meeting information on the Sourcery web site if that?s of interest.
