(j3.2006) Is the target of a pointer component a subobject?

The "terms and definitions" define what the term means. That is not the end
of the story - how you can tell whether something is a subobject or not is
not described here but elsewhere. The are more words about subobjects in
clause 2, and that further refers the reader to clause 6. Clause 6 contains
rules for how to decide whether a data-ref describes a subobject of
something else.

Currently the word "subobject" is really not well-indexed (in fact hardly at
all), so the index does not help. That could be improved.

Cheers,

Subject: (j3.2006) Is the target of a pointer component a subobject?

Subclause 1.3.141 of 14-007 says that a subobject is a

portion of data object that can be referenced, and if it is a
variable defined, independently of any other portion

Is the target of a pointer component of an object of derived type a
"portion" of that data object, and therefore a subobject thereof?
