If I recall correctly, Alessandro has also used/tested it with the 
normal downloadable versions of MPICH, Open MPI and MVAPICH. But most of 
the time, he simply used the hardware vendor's MPI like Cray's or IBM's. 
That's the most convenient way as one does not have to install oneself 
an MPI implementation ? and the system's MPI installation should also be 
the fastest. But any MPI 2.x implementation should do.

GCC 4.10: It's not yet released, but one can simply build it and at 
least for Linux you can also download nightly builds.
