(j3.2006) Fwd: JTC 1 N 12032 - Communication from JTC 1 Chair and Secretariat Concerning WG Participation - What Having Experts, Not NB Delegations to the WG, Means to You

Bill and Dan,

It is indeed worrisome. This is what I said in my report to you on the
SC22 meeting in 2012 (see N1940)

"5. eCommittee (LiveLink)
ISO has mandated that all subcommittees and working groups host
themselves on eCommittee (LiveLink). This is a significant problem for
working groups because open access will be lost. SC22 is very concerned
about this and passed two resolutions on it - one explaining the problem
and objecting - the other asking why this is being done."

Since then Rex Jaeschke has been fighting on our behalf and has prepared
a detailed document on the topic. It seems this has simply been ignored
and we are being ordered to use Livelink. We all thought
that the idea has been made voluntary for WGs.

I asked the question "What would happen if all WGs simply refused to
comply?" and seem to be getting unanimous support from the other
conveners. I will keep you posted.

Cheers,

John.
