I am boggled by the apparent claim that the very chip that the IEEE standard was written to describe, the Intel x87, does not conform to the IEEE standard. The IEEE Standard was not written to describe the Intel x87 family. The x87 did not implement single- and double-precision arithmetic as described by the IEEE standard. Bob Corbett
