Dick Hanson has been my colleague for more than forty years.  He was 
working at JPL when I started in 1967.  Along with Charles Lawson, my 
erstwhile boss, he wrote "Solving Least Squares Problems," recently 
republished by SIAM in one of their "Classics" series.  I had extensive 
correspondence with him while he was writing this book.

Tim Hopkins is the Algorithms Editor for ACM Transactions on 
Mathematical Software, where I serve as an Associate Editor, so Tim is 
also, in some sense, my boss.  John Rice, formerly of X3J3, was the 
first Editor-in-Chief of ACM TOMS.

Dick, Tim, and John are members of IFIP WG 2.5, the working group for 
Numerical Software.
