That might do it, although it is somewhat indirect. There was a clear statement 
in the FORTRAN 77 standard, and there is a clear statement in the Fortran 2008 
standard, but the intervening standards do not appear to have such clear statements.

Ian Harvey pointed out on comp.lang.fortran that the answer we gave for F08/0089 
contradicts the text of the Fortran 2003 standard.  (I sent e-mail about that 
last week.)  The interpretation deals with the differences between Fortran 2003 
and Fortran 2008.  While investigating his claims, I found I had several other 
questions about the rules concerning argument passing both in Fortran 2003 and 
in Fortran 2008.  This question was one of them.
