I found the same result (no problem) with Preview (MacOSX) and also 
running acroread version 9.4.7 on a Linux server, sending the display 
back to my laptop (in an X window).  So it does not appear to be a 
universal problem with acroread.  Perhaps Van has a buggy version, or an 
installation problem.
