As far as I am concerned this is a bad idea and should remain in the circular 
filing cabinet.

If the user wants a type-bound procedure pointer assignment, there is absolutely 
nothing stopping him from writing one.  Just do it.  Virtually zero "code bloat" 
(and no code bloat at all in the places where it is used), and he doesn't have 
to wait 10 years for compilers to support a new feature.
