(j3.2006) READ unit ambiguity

In Ian's original program there is a statement

INTERFACE OPERATOR(.op.)

which is a generic interface with both a unary and
a binary specific function defined.

Does the Standard assign an interpretation to this
statement?  If it does, does .op. parse as a <defined-unary-op>
or as a <defined-binary-op> in  that interpretation?
