(j3.2006) Interpretation Request regarding G editing to a narrow output field

Dear all,

I would like to come back to the discussion started by Bob Corbett at 
[1] whether writing a 1.0 with an edit descriptor '(G6.5)' produces six 
asterisks or only two followed by four blanks.

As most compilers produce six asterisks and there was only a lukewarm 
agreement that two asterisks plus four spaces is what the standard 
demands, I would like to submit a formal interpretation request.
