Fortran already has an operator for "range of integer values," i.e., the 
colon.

The obvious extension to use colon for that purpose was one of the 
reasons I wasn't at all concerned about using brackets for array 
constructors, notwithstanding the desire of the interval arithmetic 
community to reserve them for an interval constructor.
