Yes. I think all that is needed is to change the constraint Jim quoted 
to say "simply contiguous or scalar". I just looked at our definitions 
of contiguity and they seem to be restricted to arrays, not sure why. I 
definitely now that the constraint Jim mentioned was added late in the 
process, as we had a discussion about whether we ought to require 
"contiguous" (run time) or "simply contiguous" (compile-time) 
contiguity, and so those words are recent and subject to omissions.
I suggest Jim write a paper and that it be resolved at the next meeting 
(I won't be there).
