It has to be done in the allocator itself. It simply has to keep track 
of what it allocated and then compare the address+size with its records. 
I know you hate this answer and vendors likely won't touch the internals 
of allocator no matter what the standard says (don't do it just for the 
darn STAT result, IMO).
