The UK list is well-used for UK-only discussions.  Having a single
list would mean people in Australia, India, Russia, etc getting
information on J3 hotel reservations that they probably don't need,
quite apart from increasing list maintenance work.

There has been quite a bit of technical discussion when it concerns
people outside J3.

Come on.  The system has been running pretty satisfactorily for 18  
years.
It is a commonplace that people hit 'send' before they have put their  
brain
in gear but are you really saying it is beyond the wit, or patience, of
the current set of Fortran standards people to look at the original  
'To:'
or 'cc:' field on a message and change the corresponding field on the  
reply
accordingly?
