This is similar to the position in BSI. The BSI secretariat suddenly
offered, without consultation, their brilliant new service of mailing
lists and websites and insisted that they be used. They did not
appear to realise that the committees had been happily running their
own systems for 10-15 years. We even got naive messages from the
secretariat saying things like how could members know when meetings
were being held if we didn't use their system.
By and large the official system has been ignored. We have now
reached a compromise whereby agenda and minutes are posted on the
website and the mailing list is used for any messages which are
strictly for committee members only, but the well-established systems
continue to be the main communication mechanisms.
