I don't have a vote, but I do have two comments.

A comma is needed here to make the sentence parallel to the other
"If <w>" sentence above

This contradicts table C.1 in Appendix C of F95 (page 325).  Should
there be some sort of note about non-upward compatibility?  Or, should
the result be -1 instead?
