Malcolm:

Does the problem occur where there are consecutive \dcons with no blank
lines between them?  This might have been done to reduce intercalated
white space by avoiding "new paragraph" breaks.  If so, maybe we can get
the page breaks to come back without adding excessive white space by
putting in paragraph breaks, and then surrounding the block of \dcons
with {\parskip 0pt ... }.
